No Street label on 2004 CD Command Navigation Unit??

I just had the unit installed in my 2003 clk55.

I've tried everything and looked through the manual and very disaapointed to find out that there are no street labels on the close up maps.

It only tells you the street your currently driving on and the street to turn on but no labels of streets on the map at all.

Am I missing something or are these Command Navigation that lame?

Believe me, it's just the START of lameness for the unit. I try to tell people don't spend the money on a factory unit when there are so many better after market units. They insist on spending the big bucks for big disappointments.

What are good alternatives to the factor unit?

My understanding that it was difficult to put in aftermarket units because of the fiber wiring and difficulty hooking up the speakers.

Any good alternatives? Pictures of samples would bee nice to see.

RE: No Street label on 2004 CD Command Navigation Unit??

I've been using a Garmin dash mounted unit in all my cars for about 5 years. I move car to car as needed. I can bring it inside and connect to my computer map program and download and upload routes, waypoints and many other items in seconds. In all reality you don't use the navigation features in a car all that often usually. The Garmin unit will run circles around the stock MB unit. The map detail is MUCH better, functions many time better, being able to remove the unit from the dash and "walk the neigborhood" or bring it inside a store or gas station to ask a question is great. To be able to adjust the screen angle ( especially in a convertable) to compensate for the sun is great. You can get a new Garm C320 on Ebay for about $350. It's worth the try. If you don't like it you can turn around and sell it with minimum loss. As far as install, you just plug it into the lighter. No other wiring. Can't get any easier than that.
