Smog exempt from which year

Hi,
Everytime I have to take my 190E 2.6 1990 for a smog test in California my heart start racing..... but fortunately untill now it passed without problem. I was wondering which is the last year that the car get smog exempt? Which year in future I shall get my golden certificate that my 190 E will not require any more smog test? Is this applicable to all benz models?
I am also planning to buy a S320 1997-1999.
Thanks,
Ejaz.

I believe it is 30 years from date of manufacture before a car is smog-exempt in CA. Try looking at http://www.dmv.ca.gov/vr/smog.htm

RE: Smog exempt from which year

30 years! Granted an MB can do that but 30 years? For 99.9 percent of cars on California roads that means emissions testing forever. Sad thing is emissions testing does squat to keep the air clean.

Thank goodness Florida is an emissions testing-free zone.
