RE: Front Wheel bearing replacement on 560SEC
One of our sponsors: German Star lists the F/W. Bearing kit for $40. That price is probably for one side only. The Performance Products F/bearing kit is similarly priced.
I used to change those myself at the shop. It is kind of time consuming to do, figuring wheel, brake caliper, front hub, remove both inner & outer bearing races from each hub, install the new races, clean the two hubs, pack the replacement bearings with grease....... get everything back together & adjusted correctly.
I wouldn't want to do so today, without a proper working space & air, etc.
Typically we spend about an hours labor ($60-$100/hour) plus parts, just to replace the front brake pads...which is a lot less involved labor-wise. Given that reference, and speaking in round numbers $350-$400 seems reasonable in todays MB service marketplace.
My 2 cents, MBL
