RE: $20K budget - what model/year/type should we buy?

Just thought someone should put in a plug for the W140. I just bought one - its my first MB, and even though I am enduring through a few "things not working right" issues - like central locking etc, I am enormously pleased with it. Even my wife likes the look of it.

The W126 looks classic and classy; but the W140 looks, and feels, substantive and impressive.

I figure that if you like big (very big) comfortable cruisy cars, with real presence, then you couldn't do better than a W140. IMHO.

kind regards Andrew TD

I've heard a tune-up for an ML is like $1,500?
A "tune-up" involves putting in 12 spark plugs. I'm not aware of any valve adjustment or other things other than a good flushing/changing of the fluids. The automatic transmission should be serviced periodically and that can cost $300-400, so it could be up to $1500 for a very good and needed service at times. This should be expected for any Mercedes at higher mileage numbers.
