suggest an MB year and model

if you were going to tweak/tune a MB so that its going to be a pocket rocket which year and model is easiest to tweak/upgrade?

because of my budget limitations im considering only 10 to 20 year old models 1985-1995.

since i want it to be fast, im thinking of a gasoline engine, manual tranny, and after tweaking, it should have at least 250 HP. the body shouldnt be too big and heavy to maximize torque.

thanks for any suggestion

W123 240D, and convert it to V8.

W123 280E, turbocharge it

W201 (ideally a 2.6L), turbocharge it.

W124, turbocharge it.

1992-1994 w124 500e/e500 MB/porsche collaboration car.
Leave it stock and be extremely happy for $15-22k, or mod it out and run w/ modern day MB/bmw's at a fraction of the cost. These cars are the ultimate in MB IMO.

There are no MBs of the era you note that will fit your criteria, look for something from Japan.

is it because of my desired HP? at least 250 HP isnt a realistic goal?

RE: suggest an MB year and model

Not for MBs of this era: the 126 coupe and 107 roadsters with the 5.6 L engine can be tweaked to that HP but those are heavy chassises, so are the 129 roadsters. The 5.0 L 124 suggested is quick but still a heavy car. 140 coupes and sedans are even bigger. And none have manual transmissions unless it’s some kind of mod but then you are talking more money. The 201s will also be expensive to mod the M103 with a charger. Before 95 MB made no pocket rocket boy-racer cars. One and a half to two-ton MBs were common then.

RE: suggest an MB year and model

thanks for all your responses, i am trying to be convinced out of buying a 10 year old M3, thats why i asked the question. if i can find or tune a MB that would be as light and as quick, i would prefer the MB.

the boy racer kind of MB's are only those with AMG toys in the engines..

otherwise get a E300 or E400 and supercharge it..

get a 560SEC and super charge it

Fuel economy!! whats that??
