As you can see from the posts above, this is probably the wrong group to ask. We like our Benzes, and hate to discourage anybody.
As a few have pointed out, M-B is the wrong make for pocket rocket mods. The cars are fundamentally heavy and not all that stiff by current standards. The reason the little Honda hatchbacks are so popular as mod platforms is exactly because they are light, reasonably rigid, and easy to reinforce with welded-in tubing.
That said, if you are going to make a Benz hot rod, start with the lightest model you can find. My guess is, that would be a 1987 190. Strip the interior, throw out the AC, ditch the spare tire, swap to a light battery, lightweight exhaust, and get lightweight wheels. Then build up the motor as much as you can afford. After all that, a mod Civic will still eat your lunch.
