Won't start

Have an interesting problem.

I have a 1983 mercedes-benz 380 SEL that has been sitting out for about a year and a half.

I went to start it after installing a brand new battery.[:(]

No joy. It turns over fine, it has all the juice it needs to start. [xx(]

If I feed the engine fuel through the breather up top it starts up and revs and runs then quits as soon as it runs out of gas poored in the top. I would like to note that depressing the gas peddle while feeding it from the top DOES increase engine speed.

My hunch is a clogged fuel filter. Any sugjestions. The car started and ran before being parked.

RE: Won't start

you can replace the fuel filter, but most probably your fuel distributor requires attention. have a check, just try to press the baffle plate, if you can push this without any resistance at all the pressure is not comming up to the distributor piston, it might be stuck up since almost 1 1/2 yr it wasn't used. If you feel there is presure in the baffle plate it might be the injectors are the one stuck up.

Post in the w126 forum.

You need to check the fuel system pressure before anything else.

If you’re pouring raw fuel down the air meter plate opening, please stop – you could damage the engine and perhaps yourself.
