fuel trim code

Posted this in the W210 forum weeks ago with no joy, so thought I'd try here.

Got a CEL, ran to Autozone, found the code is for fuel trim (two codes, one for left bank and one for right). I retightened the gas cap and have done a bunch of 10-15 mile jaunts (per advice on this site) but still the CEL persists. Is the "fuel trim" message more than what a loose gas cap triggers?
I notice a slight trace of fuel on the cap gasket. Is this normal?

RE: fuel trim code

You might have a fuel tank pressure sensor problem. a slight fule residue n the gas cap is normal since mi\oisture and splashing can occur when driving

RE: fuel trim code

The code means the engine management system (EMS) computer is trying to adjust the fuel/air ratio in response to oxygen sensor output, and has run out of adjustment range. This means either the O2 sensors went bad (not likely), there is an air leak in the intake system, fuel pressure is too low, low battery voltage, or your EMS computer is one with the 'trim range' too narrow. It may require replacement of the EMS computer. Time for a real good MB qualified tech to sort out.
