RE: Freon Recharging

If you are seeing bubbles it is an indication that the freon is low.

Since you system is sealed, you no loger have a good "seal", and that is why the freon is low.

So, you'll need a good A/C shop to first test for leaks, to correct the leaks, and then to recharge your system.

Freon is about $40-$60 per pound. Your system will take 2.5 to 3.0 lbs.

So, this plus labor will give you an idea of cost.

Given the cost of Freon, unless you get it in Mexico, it would be a good time to convert to R129. The cost is not more than having to buy recycled Freon.

RE: Freon Recharging

R134 is not a solution for earlier model cars.

R134 is inherently a less efficient medium than is R12, and a system that uses R134 has a larger capacity compressor, evaporator, and condenser.

So, you would be wasting $ to do so.

Have the work done correctly, and the system will funtion the way it was designed to do so.

I thought the 93 400E already had R-134?

RE: Freon Recharging

'93 version S400 already has R134a refrigerant. Not unless the charging valves of your A/C system was converted to R12 type which is smaller in diameter.
