RE: Newbie Question
EPA ? Interested ???
Its funny, some time ago (maybe 5 years) I sent an email to EPA asking about some details of their published GREEN VEHICLE information.
They talk about CO2 problems, fuel economy etc. Why EPA do not recommend to switch to diesels and save about 30% of the fuel right on the spot ?
So what is a real savings with Diesels ? lets see:
- diesels use less fuel (about 30% than gasoline engines
- diesels have almost same power output with much more torque output than gasoline
- diesel fuel is less expensive to manufacture than gasoline - an obvious savings of the crude oil shrinking capacity.
why EPA does not see these facts?
Someone made a comment: people exposed to diesel fumes can develop a lung cancer. At the same time people exposed oa the same amount of gasoline fumes will be DEAD.
My 1985 VW Golf 1.8 L Diesel made 60 miles per galon. Now smaller vehicles, hybrids etc are claimed by EPA to be "green" and all of them just forgot about those diesels making 60 mpg almost 20 years ago?
My 1987 300SDL was making about 30 miles per galon, now the S320 equiped with direct injection diesel engine make about 37 MPG - but those are not available in the US. WHY ?
I love diesels. I worked with diesel engines for a big part of my professional life. I wish my S430 would have a diesel under the hood [:)]
I am sorry for such long venting but the subject just turned me on [:)]
what do you think about this subject ?
