STP

Is STP beneficial for old 240d's? If so, how often should it be used? Thanks.

No,
Never.
Just change the oil using CH rated diesel oil and a proper OEM filter. Older MB engines in general, and diesels in particular, don’t take kindly to additives.

RE: STP

I have to concur with jdc. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER!

I would never use additives in a Mercedes. Besides, additives just temporarily cover up problems- not eliminate them!

Why [:o)]

More information please...

And from another one of your posts:
"Actually I love BW, it’s the best site – it’s just like my older MBs: great fun and full of character(s) but annoying little things keep going wrong."

Maybe you should use additives [:D]

RE: STP

STP is liquefied Vaseline, its ‘additives’ add nothing to the existing oil’s additive package. STP is just a very heavy oil designed to muffle possible serious engine noise and problems. In diesel engines it may also interfere with the soot suspension properties of the diesel oil.

Yes, there are some ‘characters’ in BW who could use an anti-whine additive…

RE: STP

^^^^
That's a bit of an over simplification.

Anyone wishing to research all the pros, cons, formula etc. etc. for this or similar products has only to hit Google with 'STP oil treatment'
