RE: NEED TIRE AND WHEEL HELP FOR MY 97' SL500

Hi and welcome to the forum. And congrats on the purchase; nice car for a first Benz![8D]

The best place advice I can give you is to start at Tire Rack's web site (www.tirerack.com). Pick the new wheels section and it will show you wheels for your car (mounted on your car in perspective for the different sizes), then you can see the specs of the wheels. Even if you don't buy them there, I can't think of a better place to begin.

You'll hear quite a bit on size recommendations. Generally speaking, so long as you keep at or above a 45-series profile you really won't notice any ride degredation, as you move into 40 and below ride harshness increases dramatically.[:O]

Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg

RE: NEED TIRE AND WHEEL HELP FOR MY 97' SL500

Greg, Thanks for the info..I decided on a factory AMG 18" "monoblock" style wheel. I discovered through my research that the AMG package got a 245 40 on the front and a 275 35 on the rear...but now Im a little bit worried about what you said regarding the ride harshness. How bad will it get with this package on the car? Does anyone have any first hand experience with this? I ordered the wheels the other day, and Im starting to have a little buyers remorse. I use this car for my nice Sunday drives and was really interested in this sporty set up for appearance sake only..:} What do you think?

Thanks again..and I am really enjoying this forum.
