Finally got off my arse and did some checking. My HB has the part number as part of the recall (A112.035.06.00)
Does anybody know if Mercedes actually manafacture and build mercedes cars in factories in US or do they import all the parts from germany and put together?
I will have a look tomorrow and see if there was recall in Ireland
I believe all HBs were manufactured in Europe, but am not positive.

Guys, I just found the Web Site today after purchacing a real nice private party 2001 S500 with 60k mikes.
The one issue I have noticed is a Vibration just around approx 2200 RPM in any gear, it comes and goes within about +/- 100 RPM. So figure its an engine related issue.
Does this sound like an HB problem, most of the postings seem to indicate a general engine vibration at any RPM's.

dcuk has said no recall for that part in europe so no yours is not covered ,i have book my to be replace by a indi as i dont want it breaking on me, the part fitted in uk is £120 so not too bad
Guys, Had the S500 Vibration Issue checked at the Dealer, Turned out to be a bad Engine Mount. The dealer verified the HB was not a part of the recall. Anyway the engine is now so smooth now!
-I drove away from the dealer with what seemed a flat spot on a rear tire! I returned to the dealer only to find a screw in the tire, the service manager immeadiately noted that the screw was from his shop and replaced the half worn tire with a new one! 'MB of South Bay Torrance'
What does the HB do? Sorry to have such a stupid question, but I just don't know.
If you look back in the thread, much earlier on, you'll find an explanation...
Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg

After many weeks and hours of non-stop follow-up, MBUSA, working with the dealer that fixed the damage caused to my car by a defective harmonic balancer that exploded, I recieved a check for the full repair (over $2,000)!
While it did take too much effort to get it done, I'm still pleased that MBUSA decided to listen to reason and do the right thing. Thanks for taking the high road MB. When I'm ready for a new car, I may just stick with the brand.
Bought a new harmonic balancer for my 2000 CLK 320 from Autohaus for US$63. Had a Benz independent mechanic install it for AU$85 (plus another approx AU$25 for a new bolt).
Many thanks for the fantastic and necessary information from all the posters on this thread.
