Mobile 1 No Longer Recommended by MB?

OK, so I go to my authorized MB Dealer/Service Center today to have oil & filter changed on my 2005 C55 AMG.

I asked the service manager if they would use 0W-40 Mobile 1 Synthetic. I was told that they do not use Mobile 1; I was also told that MB has instructed the dealership to use Castrol Synthetic. I mentioned my manual and the car has stickers everywhere to use Mobile 1, and they said they know. As I sat in the waiting room, reading the latest MB Magazine, there is a giant ad about MB and Mobile 1. As the car was being finished up, I chatted with the mechanic, and asked what oil they used. He said Castrol Synthetic. I asked what weight, he said 0W-30.

So, my manual and warranty book says only the following is approved:
Mobile 1 SuperSyn 0W-40
Penzoil Ultra 5W-30
Quaker State Ultra 5W-30

Castrol is NOT listed. I asked 5 times between the service manager and technician and they always said Castrol for my AMG.

So... I am confused as heck as to why a MB dealership is using an oil not listed in my manual as being approved... and why, after my 2005 car has Mobile 1 stickers on it, MB would change its mind about Mobile 1.

Maybe I shouldn't be so paranoid about oil brand/weight... but I thought with a "high quality car" there would not be this kind of issue. Not to mention the manual says stuff about the warranty not being there if you don't use proper oil.

Any advice is appreciated!

I think that in your situation I would probably do the following
Ask to see the service directive from MB USA to that dealer instructing them to use that particular oil in your car with that engine..
IF it is company policy..
It will be a service sheet instruction..And if it is then MB USA will back them up when you ask them to let you speak directly on their line to MB customer care about it..
If you don't get the information that you require..Ask a lawyer to ask the question for you..Directly to the dealer principle...
That ought to get you the info you require..
AND if it appears they are not doing as they should.. and despite repeated requests and misgivings to the contrary on your part.. I think you could say they have wilfully VOIDED your warranty by using the wrong lubrication in your engine..IF they then say that all oils are the same..Refer them to the patents on mobil1 and castrol oil...

Thanks for the suggestions!

It may seem a minor detail, but I was kind of frustrated about all the Mobile 1 stuff listed and talked about everywhere and then the shrug and desire to use Castrol at the MB Dealership.

Ah no.. I dont think so..All the GERMAN touring cars are covered with Mobil 1 advertising..and I cant see them doing a split endorsement in your dealership..
I think the boys there are pulling your chain..
Just remember.. YOU are the CUSTOMER..
They work for YOU not the other way around..
You have the right to insist that they do the job properly.. AND I see no other reference on any of the forum boards that would indicate that CASTROL is now the lube of choice for MB..in the USA or anywhere else..You only get the type and amount of SH** that you acept..

Had my oil changed yesterday at the dealer and they used Mobile 1 -- didn't have to ask.

RE: Mobile 1 No Longer Recommended by MB?

visited a MB dealership's newly build showroom. The oil room has 2 1000 gal (yes 1000) oil tanks, one with Mobil 1 10w 50, the other 0w 40. I don't think they wil be changing anythime soon.
