General Question re. engine optimalization MB C180
Hopefully someone can answer this. Have a 2003 C180 Kompressor Avantgarde (station wagon) I am extremely happy with. Just a little bit more power would be nice. Have made some inquiries about chipping with mixed results.
Living in Norway there are a few companies that do chipping. One was using a kit from I think it was Kleeman. For a fairly high price which involved alot of modifications/change of parts plus electronics changes.
A friend, who happen to be an MB/BMW specialist warned me against it. Said that on this particular model it didnt' make any sense. Firstly he argued the use of the modification (cost/benefit/utilization). Secondly the stability/reliability of the cars engine after such an operation.
But there was/is supposedly another way to do it. Changing the kompressor (from 180 to 200/230 version) plus some added work on the electronics. He even said that changing kompressor was alot cheaper than the Kleeman tuning kit. Does anyone know what the correct answer may be? Can someone confirm this?
I'd like to know if anyone with same model (or sedan) have gotten modifications done (with good results).
Have thought about taking the car to Germany and get the job done there. IF, at all, it's any use. As far as I know 2005 models C200/230 T K+ have the same 1800cc engine as the C180 which supposedly again is the same (more or less) as the 2003 versions. Based on this my friends suggestion does make sense.
Sooner or later I might turn it in for a new model. a C200 or 230 kompressor. That does give some "headaches". One is that I think the Bose sound system is much better than the one in the 2005. Then there are internal design stuff, I just happen to like the 2003 model :-)
So perhaps 2006/07 models are worth waiting for?
Appreciate any answer
Thanks & Rgds
