E Class Recall

I find it a little strange that there has been no mention of the 1.3 Million E class vehicles recalled. I have a 2003 E320 Wagon that has blown every light bulb (some I didn't even know existed) and fan in the car. MB just shrugged their shoulders. Bulbs along with the brakes being replaced twice and new tires I have paid more in the past three months for the 2003 than I paid over the entire life of my '99 E320.

Guess what the recall is for - Voltage regulators and brakes! But my MB dealer stills shrugs their shoulders and says the recall is only in EU so far and they don't have to do anything yet!!! MB had 97% drop in Profits last quarter. Anyone want to bet me on why?[:(!]

RE: E Class Recall

Yeah, my dealer said exactly the same thing. I had my E55 in for a few small things the other day and asked about the recall and he said they had nothing yet, and that MB would contact owners directly in due course... We'll see.

And I agree totally with you on the profit slump issue. The whole new generation of models seems to have been plagued with electrical problems. Anyone would think they were taking lessons from the pommes in how to wire a car[:0] My wife had an '02 C240 that had huge electrical problems.

RE: E Class Recall

As far as I know dealers in Europe have not started on it either. This service campaign is part of the new quality improvement program announced on 3/30/2005. As one part the voltage regulators will be checked and replaced in all V6 and V8 produced between June of 2001 to November of 2004, since under certain temperature and humidity conditions the cooling fins can separate. More info is available (in German) on http://www.jesmb.de and http://www.db-forum.de

from http://www.jesmb.de:
Überprüfung des Spannungsreglers der Lichtmaschine (Generator) ggf. Austausch

RE: E Class Recall

I have a 2001 E320. How can I find out the manufacture date? (to see whether it's made after June 2001?)

RE: E Class Recall

I got the recall notice two weeks ago for my 2005 E320cdi built in Dec 03.

It just covers the brakes. The diesels have a 200 amp alternator which is different from the gas versions because the diesels have many additional electrical consumers like the electric heating elements in the HVAC system. I don't know how much current they use but on really cold mornings its nice to get warm air from the HVAC right after the engine starts

The recall notice is copied here:

Potato Chip, custom canuter valve, low-friction muffler bearings, synthetic turn signal fluid, Hi-Definition Progressive Scan Wiper Blades.
Law-makers are supposed to regulate in the interest of the public as opposed to regulating in the interest of the regulated party.
If it says Pratt and Whitney on the outside it better say Martin Baker on the inside.
