Mercedes USA problems? In for service 22 times in 2 years

Not sure if this is the right forum or not, but I feel the need to vent.

We have owned a 1998 SLK230 since September 2001. Purchased in Clearwater, FL. It was a Starmarked car.

In April 2002 we moved to Denver, CO. Within 2 weeks we had a CEL. Took it in for service at Mercedes of Littleton. They replaced the O2 sensors and sent us on our way.

Since then, we have had our car into the dealer 21 more times. Since Jan of 2004, we have been without our car for 92 days and counting (car has been at the dealer for 30 consecutive days as of the writing of this post).

We have contacted Mercedes USA 3 times only to be treated VERY rudely by the customer service reps and to have nothing done about our nonfunctional car.

You can guess our aggravation. We have been making payments, and paying for insurance coverage, for a car that we have not been able to drive. For the 3 months that have passed so far this year, we have had the car for less time than the dealer has had it.

I am asking for reccomendations on what we can do. We feel that Mercedes has mistreated us. What recourse do we have?

TIA for any sugestions. And I appologise if this is not the correct forum for this post.

There’s a simple fix for this, especially considering the build quality of DCX products for the near future will continue to be bad: the dealers need to say: “ we know we sell a crappy product, we’re sorry, what can we do to help… it may be unfair for the dealers to take it in the teeth until DCX can get its act together, but there’s no other solution at this point until the quality improves.

If they had said that, you more than likely would not be posting this thread.

(You’re in the right forum, btw…)

Probably not a good idea to have waited this long. All states have a Lemon Law but it typically must be exercised within 1 year of taking delivery on the car or within 1 year of the expiration of the warranty, whichever comes first. Here is a link to Colorado's law but it may be too late.

http://autopedia.com/html/LemonLaw/CO_lemonlaw2.html

I would still contact your State Attorney General's Office and your state Consumer Affairs Office for help. At this point, MB is not going to do anything more without being prodded.

Yes, the poor spelling was on purpose.

Well, quite disappointing to hear such case of bad service.

Another case, very similar to yours happened in Cape Town (South Africa) to a proud Range Rover owner. He, after apparently exhausting all possible ways to get his Rover right, had paid a full page ad in the large local newspaper and presented his case to the public. His agrevation must have been paramount by then.
Director of Rover South Africa had kicked in to save what could be saved and something was done. Definitely this was the most one could hurt the company to the most personal level and was very succesful.

I'll try to get the link to the newspaper article.
