w124 E320 Oil pressure question

Hi All,

I just have a fairly benign couple of questions regarding oil pressure and engine temperature.

I drive a '95 E320, with 78k on the clock, the oil pressure is rock solid, until I've been siting in traffic for about 20 mins.

When the engine temp goes above 90 (normally stays around the 80-85 mark when doind normal driving) the oil pressure drops off to around 2.75.

this is only with the car in Drive, when its in Park the oil pressure is a steady three. one more relevant thing, if I put any power on it jumps right back to 3 again. Im not really worried, as the temp doesn't get above 100 and the pressure builds immediately after dropping off.

I am curious if its a sign of any thing to watch for. Maybe the beginnings of head gasket trouble? or maybe its completely normal?

Anyone want to explain whats happening?

Thanks all,

RE: w124 E320 Oil pressure question

Perfectly normal. It may drop even lower (as low as 1) if the oil gets really hot (say, after some extended stop-and-go driving in the city on a hot day.) Nothing to worry about.
