RE: Gas Prices

I pay about $29 for a fill, which is 2.29 at premium.

If it jams, force it. If it breaks, it needed replacing anyway.

RE: Gas Prices

In the Philly area we are paying $2.18 for premium at the Mobil, but some stations are as high as $2.32 for premium.

RE: Gas Prices

For the record, British gallons are smaller than American gallons.

But gas in my area is up to $3. I found an Arco for #2.49 (only get Arco or Shell), so that was nice.

Diesel fuel is always more expensive in the winter. There is a higher demand for home heating oil. Home heating oil is diesel fuel. Do the math.

RE: Gas Prices

Interestingly in the UK they use both metric and the imperial system of measurement

try working out mpg when you buy fuel in litres

4 Litres = 1.05 US gallons

Price in UK 85p per litre (95 Octane)

therefore 1 US gallon = 340p

340p = (fxtop.com) $6.47

UK Price $6.47 per gallon(US)

Average price for similar is about $2.10

so gas\petrol price is 6.47/2.10 = 3.08

So its 3 times more expensive.

Still a lot

for those of you who are interested the avgerage price in Ireland for 95 Octane is about €0.95 (£0.66 $1.25)

So its a lot more expensive in the UK.

RE: Gas Prices

Hi deathrattle,

I'm glad both you and rederz007 helped put some perspective on current fuel prices and other road users.

I've just gotten this additional info recently:

Think a gallon of gas is expensive? This makes one think, and also puts things in perspective.

Diet Snapple 16 oz $1.29 ...... $10.32 per gallon
Lipton Ice Tea 16 oz $1.19 ......$9.52 per gallon
Gatorade 20 oz $1.59 .... $10.17 per gallon
Ocean Spray 16 oz $1.25 ......... $10.00 per gallon
Brake Fluid 12 oz $3.15 ........... $33.60 per gallon
Vick's Nyquil 6 oz $8.35 .. $178.13 per gallon
Pepto Bismol 4 oz $3.85 .... $123.20 per gallon
Whiteout 7 oz $1.39 ....... . $25.42 per gallon
Scope 1.5 oz $0.99 $84.48 per gallon

And this is the REAL KICKER...
Evian water 9 oz $1.49..........$21.19 per gallon?!
$21.19 for WATER - and the buyers don't even know the source. (Evian spelled backwards is Naive.)

So, the next time you're at the pump, be glad your car doesn't run on water, Scope, or Whiteout, or God forbid Pepto Bismol or Nyquil. Just a little humor to help ease the pain of your next trip to the pump...

danwatt, I think you're correct about the heating oil/diesel fuel demand linkage as to influencing pump prices. Another factor inflating oil prices is the (relatively high) percentage of oil investments in many retirement fund portfolios here in the US... High Demand = High Prices. Paraphrasing a recent Marketplace segment on NPR.

I think you may have missed on the difference between the Imperial Gallon & US Gallon. The Imperial gallon is larger by roughly 20%.

[:)]I see you two are at it again: "doing the math" [:)]

Cheers, MBL

RE: Gas Prices

i had no idea what gas prices were, i guess i'm out of touch. all i know is that when Sebastian needs a meal, i'd better give it to him. hehe. so i checked today during his din din and found out that i'm paying 2.30 per gallon for premium. Sebastian's v12 gets 22 mpg doing 73mph on the hiway so i guess it's not a big deal for the privalege to drive this fantastic car. [8D]

RE: Gas Prices

Taxes!!!! General conception is that the large trucks, that use diesel, cause more damage to the roadways, due to their weight, than automobiles. Higher taxes to offset road repairs.
I guess that there is also a perception, that if you own a MB, for what you paid for the car, you don't worry about fuel prices.....
