RE: Hmmmmm- time to extend warrenty, what to do?

I am in the same boat. I was quoted $2500-3000 for an extended warrenty thru the local MB dealer.

I have a 01 C320 with 12,000 miles.

Should I get the extention?

Thanks

RE: Hmmmmm- time to extend warrenty, what to do?

MB warranty is up to 7 years and 100k miles. There are a couple of versions.

I own an '02 ML with an MB extended warranty. While I purchased my warranty as a knee jerk reaction, now that I am at 51k, I am so glad I got it. If I were making the decision today, here would be my thinking process..

A. How long are you keeping it?
B. What will the top warranty cost?
C. What is the likelihood of one of the following in that time frame...
1. transmission needing overhaul or replacement
2. engine head gasket replaced or worse
3. major electrical or heat/air problem

My real opinion is; If you buy an MB today, the extended warranty is insurance...If you have enough money to overcome anything, or you can get a better return on your money by doing something else with it, or you are going to slough it off before the warranty expires, or it's a business vehicle, or it's a lease, don't get the warranty. Otherwise, the probability of a post '00 Mercedes punishing you to the tune of $2500 within 7 years/100,000 miles is very, very high.

I'm in this for the long haul. Love the car. As I've read through the forum it looks like you can count on some things failing so the investment appears to be a logical choice.

thanks for the feedback.

Mercedes sold an additiomal 4year,up to 100,000 for $2700 within one year of new car purchase. It covered everything including towing much as the new car warranty did

I'd also check out Warranty Direct - I inquired a few months ago, and they had super coverage plans and very compettive rates, especially here in Wisconsin where, for some reason, some of those insurance companies shy away. By the way, I decided to just put $50/month to the side for my own "insurance," because I barely put 500 miles a month on. Billyon, with your few miles, you might consider the same.

RE: Hmmmmm- time to extend warrenty, what to do?

I just got off the phone with a guy from National Warranty and get this...

they can provide a 7 year 120k warranty for $321/month (total $2250) with a 0 deductable. I just need to pull the trigger before getting over the 36K miles mark- so that means soon.

is this for real? comes with roadside assistance, rental car provision, etc. PINCH ME!

So ok all you pro's out there- what's the catch!

RE: Hmmmmm- time to extend warrenty, what to do?

The 7 years is from the original in service date, not the new warranty purchase date. After you get your on line quote from them, you'll probably get an email offering a several hundred dollar limited time discount. I've received several follow-up calls from their sales staff as I try to decide on their product or not.

RE: Hmmmmm- time to extend warrenty, what to do?

After I got the quote from one dealership, I shopped other MB dealerships and was able to find a good price.
5 year 100K for $2K with a $0 deductable. In California, there are only a couple of companies allowed to sell the extended warrenties.

Thganks for the advice.
