RE: Radar detectors

So if you have a "built-in" radar, would it be considered braking the law in those states?

RE: Radar detectors

Has anyone had any experience with a radar scrambler...not exactly legal (can't be sold but plans for them are available). My brother has used one for some time with varying degrees of success.

The Valentine doesnt have POP radar detection and their customer service doesnt acknowledge it. The escort and bell do, the "next" Valentine One "claims" to have this issue resolved according to customer service. Its also a big brick on your dash. Buy the escort
The current V1 does have POP mode. Prior to it being added, Valentine very clearly stated that they did not support it on their website. An interesting thing about the V1 is that it can be upgraded without having to buy a whole new unit.

As hard as it might be to believe, the Valentine, 16.2 cu. in., is smaller than the Escort X50, 18.95 cu. in., and the Bel RX65, 16.32 cu.in. The Valentine is wider, but it is thinner and shorter which gives you more mounting options. As you can see, the Escort is the biggest of the three.

Yeah, I was given one as a gift and I won't ID it because of what I'm about to say, but it was from a company in the Rocky Mountains. One word describes it: junk. On second thought, make that two words; worthless junk.
They CAN be sold and have been for some time, so I'm not sure what your reference is unless you're referring to a law in a specific state or municipality.

RE: Radar detectors

I just saw a Bel Rx65 on eBay for $250 - about $75 below retail.

For my experience, I have a Cobra EDP-9560.
I do not recommend it.

It is my third Cobra product.
The only standout is it is cheap. You can get it for around $100 either Best Bur or Circuit City.
Performance wise, it picks up all kinds of radio and the product usually comes with 1 year warranty.
Amazing enough, the product dances its on mind right after one year of usage.
Previous two radars from Cobra worked well (considering the price of $100), but broke down right after one year.

I am shooting for Escort next time with little bit of price in mind.
Let's see...you've spent maybe, what, $300 on three admittedly crappy detectors. I just bought a new highly-recommended X50 Passport for $330 or so (got the blue display). My last Passport I bought new in 1987 for I suppose $150 and it still gets the job done although technology has passed it by. See where I'm going with this...??
As I said earlier in this thread, cheap detectors are like cheap shoes and cheap helmets. Ya gets wot ya pays for. Seriously, spring for an X50 or a Valentine. They're both terrific.

Has anyone tried the $2K "built in" option?

RE: Radar detectors

Let me clarify...

I was toying with the idea of getting ICE installed and was quoted about $2K for getting a radar detection system installed as well.
