RE: importing a car

Probably cheaper to get one from the US, when you take into consideration the shipping, registration, possible type approval, and all the possible red tape.

If not cheaper, it will save you alot of aggro.

Is there any specific reason you want that specific car (swb) from germany? I'd say if you are spending the cash, go for a LWB, they just look more proportional.

RE: importing a car

Diesels have disappeared from American roads because they haven't met the Clean Air standards.

I think it would be extremely unlikely that you could import a non USA spec anything and get it approved for the roads.

It's not just all the emissions stuff - if you could even meet them, it's the crash standards, lighting standards, seat belts, seats, windows, doors.

There are some specialty importers that do this for a living. Research for them to do the job for you. They usually do rare Italian jobs or something weird for a media type with more money than sense.

Realize this typically costs $50,000 to $75,000 to do ( no kidding)

I would look for the diesel MBZ's that are here, and find one you like. I mean, if you're trying to save money.....

I hear they may be importing them again soon, too.
