w210 battery drain

Purchased a 97 w210 e320 with starmark - dealer totally incompetant in diagnosing battery drain. After three attempts and charging me on my nickel to diagnos problem with guesswork - could have pulled fuses in 1/2 hour as opposed to four hours of dealer labor and $400. Final guesswork of dealer was aftemarket alpine cd changer but battery totally discharged in one day after cd changer was disconnected.

Is this a common problem? Battery drain or/or dealer stupidity or dishonesty?

RE: w210 battery drain

I think there are a lot of folks that feel your pain [I haven't had the problem with an MB but with another vehicle]. If you do a search, you will find a number of posts about battery drain. While it might seem like a simple to find, it isn't really that simple. You probably can't find it by pulling fuses. Assuming that the battery and the charging system is in good condition, finding where the excess drain comes from can take quite a bit of time. It takes several hours for your cars electrical system to go to sleep. The current drain causing your battery to discharge might not be constant, it could be something that turns on once in a while. In the case of you Alpine, was the wiring done aftermarket? If so, then you might have to look further up the harness. It could still just be the dealer... in my case with a Pontiac, it was all the dealer. Their was a TSB out on the problem I had.

To even guess at your problem, you'd have to post a lot more detail about what is happening and the condition of the battery and the charging system.

Havn't had this problem either. Maybe your battery is on its way out and needs to be replaced.
