Rolls-Royce

Ladies and gentlemen, please tell me what you know about Rolls - Royce, there is this 1987 two tone ( silver black ) silver spur that is advertised for sale for about $24,000 , the thing looks so royal and pretigeious I am comtemplating maybe buying it ( of course I would have to sell my current car and pay more ...

1) what is your opinions on driving one of those ?

2) is it worth it ?

3) whats so great about rolls-royce cars?

4) Is that a good price for it ?

5) thanks in advance for your opinions..

RE: Rolls-Royce

Fantastic cars....BUT for repairs and parts your talking telephone numbers...and you thought MB main dealers were expensive! Also if its a genuine dealer supplied model...well they used to come supplied with bars across the engines to prevent any un-authorised 'tinkering' and they had special fittings so you couldn't use any spanner to gain acsess!Maybe the later ones are different - you will have to have a look and ask.Personally i would have a Bentley over a Rolls anyday (yes i know at that age they are the same company, engine etc..)but they are more 'distinguished' and less likely to draw unwanted attention! If you must - ask LOTS of questions -ask for lots of history ,and get a professional inspection!LOL[;)]

RE: Rolls-Royce

im like you mbe...id love to drive a rolls, and i see them quite often down here for as low as $15k...very nice looking cars, but the maintenence would kill you...you see the price tag and think, "hey i could afford that"....but then you have to factor in what itll cost to keep that moneypit on the road....if i had the money, id get one as a secondary car...so that if it breaks down, im not without transportation....with those cars you could be driving along and BAM, you need $1000 or more to fix it....id suggest doing a LOT of research before diving into something like that

wow , I wonder if they are in the 80s or 70s these cars ?

I have not really seen bently models in person, but according to cars.com they are a little cheaper than rolls-royce.

RE: Rolls-Royce

Just as Daimler and Benz merged in 1926, Rolls and Bentley “merged in 1931, so there’s no difference between the two except for the grills and the flying lady. Rolls-Royce Bentley was bought by VW in 1998 (yes, “peoples car, – and you thought Daimler Chrysler was bad…) but Rolls Royce plc, the original marque and manufacture of aircraft engines, among other products, was sold to BMW and since 2003 the VW Group can’t sell cars called “Rolls Royce.

Both Bentley and Rolls were built in Crewe, UK, since 1946, they are mechanically identical and reflect the same build quality and parts availability.

RE: Rolls-Royce

Yes, we met some folks who live in S. California who have an 80's Rolls. They complained that the cooling system just wasn't up to the heat in their area, so they were often subjected to the embarrasing situation of being broken down on the side of the road --- with a Rolls Royce!

Thanks,

RE: Rolls-Royce

A very good friend of mine bought a 1982 Rolls Royce Corniche last year and I took it out for a few runs. I enjoyed driving it but it handled like an ocean liner, it’s not a car for dashing about. I must admit I felt stupid driving it and very self conscious it was like people were screaming rich pr*ck as I drove down the street.
Classic and sports car did a good article not so long ago about buying these old ladies. In my opinion if you buy the wrong one you are looking at a major wallet attack.
