I think that most Americans believe headrests are for comfort, not safety, "head rest." They do not know it prevents whiplash and neither do the dealers. It sounds similar to the deception of American politics. A society that does not care to be informed!
I just got back from Orlando/Cape Canaveral: loads of headrests, and loads of diversity of character - but very, very few MBs!
I think your observation is off-beam; there coul dbe a very interesting topic around what societies choose to be told, and how it's different in each country and even region: but sadly, to many people will take offence and oppose what they see as a slight.
