Shift knobs replacement - Are all universal fit?

I am thinkin of replacing the shift knob of my W124 automatic.

I saw a number of knobs on eBay, but are the knobs universal fit for all Mercs?

Mine is a 1993 W124. Which models are compatible?

Since the shaft and knob on your model are one unit, be careful since the shafts are not all similar. You could end up with problems engaging into certain gears. I have heard people say cut the old knob off and replace it with a new knob but I think these people have a full time profession as butchers.
