ML320 hard to start

Hi, I have a minor problem. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. My ML320 has been generally problem free. I rescently took it on a 400 mile trip. Half way through the trip I filled-up on gas. Later, I noticed that it was getting hard to start:

Normal was:
-Turn the key and it starts in 3-4 seconds.

Hard to start is:
-Turn the key and let it turn-over for about 8 seconds, doesn't start.
-Try again for another 8 seconds, doesn't start.
-Try again and it starts, runs rough for about 3-4 seconds, then works fine.

After running for a while (10 miles or so):
- Shut off engine and restart within 1 minute, starts normally.
- Shut off engine and restart 10 minutes later, it's hard to start.

I've run 2-3 tanks of gas through it since the trip, but have'nt seen any improvement. Any suggestions? Thanks for the help,
Don

RE: ML320 hard to start

It could be the fuel pump relay:

That sounds like the dreaded fuel pump...PERIOD! If you're not under warranty, get ready for a thump! Approximately $1000!

[:0](Whoa! For that I’d get a mechanically sound 240 D with faded paint and call it a day! Bless the old MBs). [|)]

RE: ML320 hard to start

No doubt! When I had mine done (out of warranty), the pump was about $550 and the labor was another $500 or so.
The fuel pump is attached to the fuel tank and mounted underneath the 2nd row of seats. The seats have to be removed for repair also.

RE: ML320 hard to start

I have the same problem. Please help [:(] My ML320 never had any problem starting until two days ago when I filled up the gas (100% sure I selected "premium") and found out later on the receipt showing it's "regular"! Had no idea how that happened since my friend and I saw it showed premium at the pump!

This morning it took 3 times to start my car and it has been acting the same as CrystalDon's case. Could this problem be caused by filling lower gas octane (from 92 to 87)? Any advice would be very much appreciated. Thanks a lot. [8)]

Having the same problem. Got a brand new fuel pump (big set back), changed the fuel filter, checked the relays and I'm still at square 1! Help
