Really..... with a SLK230. I got that as a loaner at one time and took it to the illigal drags...I got smoked all the time I raced. Even with a stock dodge neon. Are you sure about s m o k i n g ricers???

I know it sounds cool and all (if you have an E46 M3), but you're in a SLK230, that thing is a slug.

04' G500 (G-Wagen) Benz (sold) <== we trully miss her.
04' Range Rover <== Traded with an Audemars Piguet RG Royal Oak Montoya =)
07' BMW 750Li <== traded this in, economy is down.

RE: Favorite/Most hated Feature on any Benz?

1979 280CE - 70,000 - 1978 280E 230,000

Favorites,
The Star - The Grille
The Ride at highway speeds
The Odometer- and the fact it really needs six digits
The Visibility is great
All the original parts -that have not failed
Semi classic exterior - MB Tex Interior
Easy to maintain - inexpensive to purchase
Good quality - Built to last
The sound of one door closing

Hated
The USA decision to detuned the 110 motor - it needs more power - Poor acceleration from a dead stop.
1970's climate control
Transmission shifts into fourth gear at 30 MPH over the maximum USA speed limit, what were they thinking

RE: Favorite/Most hated Feature on any Benz?

Love ('90 300E):

- 90 degree hood opening
- Outside temp gauge (& easily viewable)
- Real gauge (v. idiot light) for H20 temp & oil pressure
- Very easy to work on for most tasks
- No rattles, squeaks in 14 year old auto
- Refined ride
- Manual Driver side mirror
- Great turning radius
- Heated washer fluid
- lack of electronic reminders for everything(a la' BMW)
- a pretty accurate clock (after 14 years)
- Wheel stud locator (in tool kit) makes putting wheels on, even with "Kleen Wheels" blocking your view, a snap
- yeah, three pointed star is pretty sweet

Love ('84 300D)

-much of above, plus sweet everlasting turbo diesel

Hate:

- Arm rest covers always wear out
- Vacuum door locks
- Plastic sun visors that always break or have lights go out
- plastic parts in engine bay that shatter when touched; due primarily to Europe's recycling craze
- weak headlights
- weak factory radio, speakers

1990 300E - Current steed - 180 K mi.
1984 300D - Daughter's - 244 K mi. - tough car, but Wash DC is brutal on cars; given to charity before its time.
1986 325e - Son's - 200 K mi. (sold after much improvement, as son moved to convertible BMW)
1992 325ic - Son's current ride - 105 K+ mi.
1994 325is - Wife's - 140 K mi. (great car, but wife ready for 4 door)
2002 BMW 330i - Wife's - 65 K mi. - trend is bad; BMWs taking over here
1990 Taurus SHO - Gone (at 195 K mi.); truly a great one.

hate - vaccuum system/ACC/becker radio

I love the big Grille on my 250 along with the hood latch being off to the side made out of metal rather than plastic. I also love how you turn the knob to open the vent windows it's so cool.

RE: Favorite/Most hated Feature on any Benz?

1997 S500
LOVE:

The "Stage Presence"-best looking S class PERIOD!

Tight turning radius

The Star

Self-closing Doors- Absolutely amazes people not in the know!

Dual paned windows

M119 engine

Quiet ride

Leg room

Bose Beta sound system- still amazes me!

Typical MB over-engineering (retractable trunk handle)

90 degree hood

Simple dash and instrument layout

Car gets parked up next to the door at fine restaurants

Full size spare with matching alloy wheel

Driving it a 90 MPH all day and feeling like I could open the door and get out and run next to the car (no speed sensation- at least not any of the negative kind)

90,000 miles and still no sign of wear and tear on the interior and not even a hint of a squeak or rattle.

HATE:

Visiting the Mechanic $$$$$$$$$$$$

Cup holders in the arm rest...yeah yeah I know- I'm lucky to have any at all.

The fact that the auto rain sensing wipers make a single sweep (on dry glass) if the system is left on and the car is re-started. Lexus owners never turn their's off....ever.

Side mirrors don't have an auto-fold function

MB says this car's tranny fluid never needs to be changed..BULLSHIT!! - If you don't change the oil and filter AT LEAST every 30K, you'll be purchasing a new tranny at the 100-120K mark at the tune of $3500- if your lucky.

RE: Favorite/Most hated Feature on any Benz?

hey da surg...nice topic! [8D]

like the previous benz man with the s500...i agree with him on most points. i'd add....

the 'snarl' sound of the 12 cylinders during acceleration

the suede leather headliner

heavy napa leather seats at 105K miles still look new

the look on people's faces when they see the "v12" on the side

the 'rest' button in winter

ability to turn off traction control and have 'fun'

aiming at items with the star like a rifle scope...hehe

i know this is aftermarket but...the super dark tinted glass, it's like wearing shades; they can't see where your eyes are looking [8D]

the feeling i get when, at a light, and i raise the sunshade in the rear window in the face of the bimmer jerk who finally caught up to me

the power telescoping steering wheel

the rich dark wood trim

wood/leather steering wheel

the living room back seat for my guests

the comments and looks on faces when they take a peek under the hood and get their first look at a 12

the looks when you open the hood to 90 degrees at a service station

the feeling of the ultimate luxuriously smooth ride of my s600 after driving that damn lincoln aviator for several days...ahhhhh yessssss

pain in the ass stuff:

cost of repairs

frequency of repairs

punk kids playing road games with you, where's my damn uzi?

little things going haywire

the hassle of always carrying a supply of handkerchiefs for wiping gawker's chins [8D]

RE: Favorite/Most hated Feature on any Benz?

oopppsss....

forgot a few goodies:

smooth power operation of the rear headrests

rear seats recline for my guests

large amounts of dark rich burled walnut everywhere, especially in the back 'livingroom'

large, walnut covered, elegant, lighted ashtrays with lighters in the rear seat

mamouth legroom

enormous boot space

power front headrests

front seat seats move independantly from the rest of the seat

all windows are express

all seats are heated

dislike:

to change out cd's you have to stop the car, get out, open the trunk and fiddle with the hard to get at cd changer. hey MB, put the damn thing in the dash already!
