Why arent there more manual trans. benzes?

Im just wondering why Mercedes does not equip their cars with manual (6 speed) transmissions like BMW does? The E-Class should have a manual offered and so should the ML. They last longer and are so much more fun to drive!

Good point, I'd love to have a manual in my E and ML (but maybe just a 5 speed in the ML).

MB's are meant more for luxury than for driving pleasure. That's why BMW's have more manual transmission options than MB's. Another thing is that BMW is also a driver's car so it's a whole interactive experience driving a BMW compared to a Benz. They say that a stick shift allows more control and maximum usage of the transmission and engine.

Just my 2 cents

Jamison: Please spare us your political propaganda. It is out of place here.

By the way, Bush's bombs have killed more than 30,000 Iraqi children. Have a nice day.

If you don't have anything intelligent
and constructive to say, then refrain
yourself from commenting and I suggest
you follow your own advice.

This is after all a CAR forum and politics
don't belong on a CAR forum.
There are plenty discussion sites where
politics are the main dish.

Louis, what you know about Mercedes wouldn't fill a thimble. Jamison's post had nothing to do with his politics. That is signature on everything he posts. Get over it.

RE: Why arent there more manual trans. benzes?

I wasn't replying to his post but to
his signature.
And I don't need to see political
mumbo-jumbo on a car forum, I see
that enough daily on my TV.

And since you have no idea as to what
year or model MB I drive how could you
possibly know the extend of my knowlegde?

Well, lets see.
I'm not a master mechanic.
I don't work in a repair facility.
I don't even have garage.
I mess up some of my repairs.

BUT I have maintained my own cars since I
started driving at 17.
I'm 34 now.
I have only owned 5 cars over a 17 year
period.

Now, this is nothing to deserve a medal
for but:
I never went to school to become a mechanic
Actually I'm a chef by trade.
I have never worked in a repair facility.
I have never owned a garage
And from the get go I messed things up.

So, nothing much has changed in the last 17
years.
Exept that I have become better at restraining
myself and I have grown smarter.
I used to get angry at people like you, but
now I know better.
I don't have to belittle people to feel
superior, I'm happy with who I am.

So, do you have the guts to post your extensive
list of MB or other automotive kowledge?
Put your money where your mouth is, buddy.

Louis.

Actually, I know virtually everything about MB. A virtual fountain of knowledge. However, I prefer to make money in my waking hours, not doing auto maintainance. I have a fine German mechanic, who worries for me.

One thing that strikes me as strange,
that you as a fountain of knowledge didn't
even provide the original question with an
aswer?

I don't need to know everything about
MB just that what will make me maintain
my car better and longer.

If one would know everything one would be
rich.
And since you have a laundry list of
cars and as per your admittance that
you know everything about mb, you
must be rich.

Well, I'm not.

I also don't pretend or proclamate to
know everything.
I do however know enough to keep my
cars running(94 Camry,120K-84 MB station,269K
and running well.
That what I don't know, I learn.

Good night.

Louis.
