RE: Low-quality Mercedes
"I'm debating buying a '05 SLK."
I'd consider it only if you plan on keeping it until the warranty expires and then only if you'll trade it on another MB. The other dealerships are well aware of the problems and they don't want them for trade-ins either.
Benznut113. Make sure you're checking EVERY light there is. I recently had the same thing happen. Icouldn't find any defective lights. Finally, A headlight went out and I asumed it was the problem. Later the warning started again. Then a fog;ight went out. Same thing for a while until I had the warning again. This time, while looking around the car at night, I found one of the license plate lights out. Ok again for a short time and a hard time finding a problem. Finally, I found a marker light on the fron passenger side out. It was intermittent though. The filament was broken but if it reconnected, it would work for a while. After replacement, no problem. Most of the lights come in packs of two. Good idea to replace both at the same time and keep the good old one as a spare. Good luck.
