RE: Low emissions @ 186,000 miles.
The car starts up and runs great, but the previous owner, a construction company for 13 years, then a wholesale auction house, didn't keep up the interior or exterior. There are no records of any kind, other than the New Jersey state registration info.
The front, light beige or tan seats, were never treated or cleaned, and are split and cracked with the drivers seat having a large hole worn through the leather and padding on the seat back.
Two of the windows don't go up or down. The center console cover is broken, both visor clips are busted, the plastic driver's side door sill is cracked, the drivers side "kick" panel is busted into three parts. Both lower sides of the back rear window have "de-laminated" so that the defroster grid doesn't work and has shorted out.
On the exterior, both the front and rear bumper chrome were "trash", and the grill was bent and busted in five places. I've replaced the grill and front bumper chrome already and am still looking for the middle section chrome for the rear bumper. There are a several spots on the body panels and doors where it looks as if they were "poked" with metal re-bar or iron rods.
The clear coat paint on the top, trunk, and edges of the fenders has peeled off in large areas, so it really needs a new paint job. The wheels are beat and battered, but not bent, so I'll just prep them and have them painted at a body shop.
I normally spend about 20 to 30 hours a month on-line trying to pick up a good deal on MB parts. Good God but Mercedes part prices are unbelievable. A $18-$24 distributer cap for $114.00, and a $6.00 dist. rotor for $36.00, A $12 headlight lens for $78.00?
But, I own it now so can only repair, replace, and fix up the old lady correctly. I did just replace the OEM plastic frame headlight assemblies with the glass Euro headlight assemblies.
What a difference, not only in the "look" but also in the greater amount of light that the Euro headlights put out.
