Merc US dealers private or corporate?

SO what's the deal with the American Benz dealers? Up here in Canada almost all are corporate MB stores. There is little to no negotiating on the price of the car. They will NOT negotiate on the MSRP. The only way to "make" some money is on the trade.... even then it isn't much.

They may also include 1 or 2 options.... but again, will NOT take away anything off the MSRP.

EXCEPTION - they have 1 day every year where they clear out all of they left over stock. That day they have BIG discounts on the cars of the year that is ending..... and will also offer some discounts on the new vehicles.

Just wondering what the situation is down in the US in terms of negotiating and ownership of the dealers.

RE: Merc US dealers private or corporate?

Same in the US.The dealerships are privately owned here in the States.BMW is about the same.My brother leased a 2003 525i and they would only come down $1700 off the sticker price saying that they don't sell their cars very much above dealer cost which everyone knows is not true.As long as people are willing to pay outlandish prices for German cars, the prices will remain high.My brother commented today that his BMW was $20,000 more than my Honda Accord V6 with 240HP and plenty of interior space. He couldn't justify the price difference after comparing both cars.I couldn't either.

mercedes benz of manhattan is the only dealership that is owned and run by mercedes benz usa, the rest are owned by individuals, or automotive groups.

That makes more sense. I keep reading of folks here negotiating with their dealers. That is the case for the majority of the dealers up here, with the exception of Saturn and MB. Most MB dealers are corporate Mercedes Canada stores.

If you haven't a dealer in your area who will "deal" call Inskip Mercedes in Warwick, RI. area code 401 they will deal and are a great dealership. I have bought more cars there then I can remember and have always been treated fairly. They also handle Lexus, BMW, Porche, Infinity, Acura, Audi, and Bently......enjoy
