I have to brag about the Navigation System in the 2004 SL500. It is 4th on my list of top 10 features. The best feature of the NAV system is that you can see the NAV directions in the instrument cluster.
I took a trip this weekend to a small town in Mississippi. My wife put the destination in the NAV system and off we went. We was amazed that the NAV said bear left when we approached a off ramp or Y on the interstate. I remember we all ways took the wrong street in the Bay Area with the "Hertz Always Lost System". Wife and I wished that the Hertz's system would tell us to bear left. I was very surprised that the Mercedes NAV would tell us the correct right turn to turn on when you had a choice of 3 right turns. Usually on a standard intersection, the 2 streets would cross to form a +, but sometimes you have an extra street that comes in diagonally. The Mercedes NAV would have a picture of the intersection and display the street name and enlarge the street that we needed to turn. We wished we had that function on the Hertz's NAV because a lot of the streets in the Bay Area are like that and there may be another right 10ft from the intersection. Wife and I took the wrong street with the "Hertz's Always Lost System" a lot. The Mercedes NAV would also recalculate directions a whole faster than the Hertz's system when you did go the wrong way. The Mercedes NAV will not show you all the unnecessary street names, but it will count down in miles, then ft to your next turn. The system even gave us the names of river and lakes on trip.
For all you Mercedes owners that is thinking about purchasing a new Mercedes you must get Key-Less go and the Navigation System. It makes our trips more enjoyable. Now I do not have to rely on my wife, because she has the disease of can not read maps.
