check engine light on

hi guys.
i have searched this and other forums about my problem.
the check engine light went on, and my car started to hestitate on acceleration and was iding roughly.
i have replaced my maf and ovp a month or so ago. other topics suggest oxygen sensors may need replacement. would you agree?
i am thinking of getting an obd reader, and want some suggestions as to what brand is the best. also is a 96 c280 a obd 1 or obd 2?
thanks in advance.

RE: check engine light on

did you replace your maf yourself? or did you have a shop/dealership do it? if you did, you need to reset your adaptations in your engine control module. disconnecting your battery usually doesnt work for doing this. also, could be your spark plugs. 104 engines are pretty sensitive to crappy plugs. how about your fuel filter? also check for a vacuum leak. there could be alot of problems that could cause your symptoms. having your fault codes and or descriptions would help alot.

RE: check engine light on

when i replaced my maf/mas, the check engine light wasn't on, probably because i had to replace my ovp relay too.
i will let you know what my mechanic says.
i am thinking of getting an obd scanner. is a 96 c280 using obd 1 or obd 2?
thanks again for your input.

RE: check engine light on

hi guys.
you're right, my c280 is obd 2 complied. i just saw the emissions plate under the hood.
got my car back last night, and it had a cylinder misfire. my mechanic replaced all plugs and he told me that i needed a new coil too.
anyway, i am glad my car's running great again.
thanks again for your inputs and have a good weekend.

RE: check engine light on

Just an update,
my car needed a new coil, and newe wires. my mechanic inspected the plugs, and he told me that they're still fairly new, no need to replace them.
car's running very well.
