Good or bad ideas ????

I bought 3 bottles of Auto-Rx (engine cleaning stuffs). Should I use it to clean my 89 300ce with 120,000 miles engine??? I am taking my car to AAMCO tomorrow to have my transmission fluid changed. Can they handle the job???? Dealer charge me double !!!($300 for so called power flush.)

RE: Good or bad ideas ????

Well, you asked and I'll give you my personal opinion FWIW. Mercedes (and neither do other manufacturers)does not recommend any additives of any kind. The only time I use an additive is to try to fix a specific problem and that's very, very rare. The best thing you can do for your engine is to use a quality oil and change it as required. I would not let an AAMCO type place touch my transmission. You might get lucky and find a good franchise who knows what they are doing with an MB transmission. Make sure the filter is changed and that the torque converter is also drained. I believe the so called "flushes" are nothihg more than a profit maker for the shop and I'm sorry to see some dealers now trying to sell that service. The filter on the transmission must be changed despite what some of the flush people tell you. The only way to do that is to drop the pan and drain the fluid. So if you need to do that, you don't need a flush.
