RE: looking at a car long distance

There are companies that you call use to look over the car for you for a fee. They would take to car to their mechanics and evaluate it for you.

RE: looking at a car long distance

Do you mean "PDI": "Pre Delivery Inspection"? What city is your target vehicle in? It's best to have an enthusiast first drive and inspect the vehicle, as you would, then turn it over to a specialist garage for a "Pre Buy Inspection." Usually 1 hour labor charge. I just did all of this for an East Coast buyer who nearly passed on a car. Turned out to be a billionaire oil company owner's personal car, with all records from new! Shipping it was frustrating. Despite all of the claims, it does NOT go as stated or in a timely fashion, UNLESS you pay a firm double the rate everyone quotes.

RE: looking at a car long distance

I was in Hawaii when I bought my SLK32 from the seller in San Diego. I had a friend in the area go check it out for me. Like somebody else mentioned, the shipping was the biggest hassle. The seller was very helpful in those regards, and the car was everything that I expected.

If you do buy, do some research before deciding on a transporter. I did my research afterwards, and found several complaints about the company I was dealing with. FYI, it was National Auto Transport, do not do business with this company.

Agreeing with the other posters they are all good recomednations, have a mechanic inspection, require history doc's etc.

Depending on location, you might find someone on this or other boards that would be willing to assist you out. you could provide a list of things you want tested, as well as a standard used car check list etc.
