Blitzen-Benz information

Hey everyone, I'm new to this forum. I just inherited a Blitzen-Benz Poster (1909 race car) from my grandmother. It has been sitting in her closet for well over 50 years. I'm trying to find out what this piece would be worth and when and where it was made (is this a rare piece?). If you know anything about these posters that were made up, or someone I could get a hold of that would help me out greatly!

It is a very large poster too and in black and white. Probably 3 feet X 2.5 feet, and the material is more like cardboard, not paper. The vehicle itself is different than the ones I've seen on the internet, there are no exhaust pipes just cut offs that come out of the engine compartment, if any of this information helps. I can also email a picture of it that I took if that helps as well.

Thank you very much. You can email me directly @

RE: Blitzen-Benz information

There's an active "art" market for original advertising posters that were used in Europe. Typically they are the paper posters that were glued to building walls, but in their current marketing, are glued onto linen to preserve them. Take some good quality pictures and take those around to galleries in your area or on the web.

Hi 72camaro,

Here's a photo from 1909 below. As I understand its' performance capabilities, it took aircraft 10 years to exceed the maximum speed attained by this car!

For the specs, go to: then add blitzen to the search field.

Vroom, Vrooooom! MBL

Yow! The Blitzen had a 4-cylinder engine that displaced
21.5 liters!

That's some big pistons!

It looks like a locomotive: it’s just an engine with wheels…[:0]

RE: Blitzen-Benz information

thank you for the reply everyone. I did a little research as well and these things are pretty rare! I posted an auction on ebay with pictures if you're interested in seeing them. Here's the link " Name=STRK:MESE:IT"
