Preferred Fluids & Magnetic fill & Drain Plugs
I just recently bought a white 1983 240D with manual transmission (172K miles) and intend to run it for a decade or more.
I would like to install a magnetic drain plug in the differential fill plug (not possible in drain I think) and in both the transmission fill & drain plugs (I can pull the fill plug out every other engine oil change and clean it w/o changing the lube).
The engine takes a 12 mm x 1.5 plug which is on order.
I found a great source for magnetic drain plugs with a wide variety:
But which one fits my 240D Manual transmission ?
1042M perhaps ?
My choice of fluids
Brake Fluid - Valvoline Dot 4 Synthetic
Power Steering - Valvoline Synthetic PS Fluid
Engine - Rotella Synthetic 5w40
Manual Transmission - Leaning towards Redline MTL
Differential - *IF* I can get it, Castrol SAF-WO or BMW OSP; if not Mobil 1 75w90
Antifreeze - 55% Peak Extended life, Sierra 15%, Distelled Water 30% (Note I did the calcs and this is very close to the maximum heat transfer/volume for a mix of water, ethylene glycol & propylene glycol) Minimum corrision with just 30% distilled water.
Windshield Washer - RainGuard "pink"
Wheel Bearing Grease - Leaning towards Mobil 1 grease
Any comments ?
