No, Carfax is a good service, unfortunately the report only reflects what the owner at the time reports. This often happens with minor accidents where the police are not involved and the owner pays for the repair and does not involve the insurance company. [:(!]

I did run a CARFAX prior to buying. It came out smelling like roses. I guess CARFAX is a questionable source for accidents that are repaired by "shoemakers". Shame on EBAY for allowing this to happen.
The biggest problem with Carfax is with exotic cars, or, atleast people who I know that have Ferraris, Lambos, etc., their accidents usually don't involve law inforcement, insurance companies, etc., ie, they are usually repaired on a cash basis. Hence, Carfax's statement to the effect that information collected is "reported."

There is some "warranty" from Carfax. But probably they have so many disclaimers you can't collect on it.

There is some "warranty" from Carfax...

Note the key phrase: “DMV-Reported incidents… Carfax will only buy back the car if THEY miss a DMV known problem, not a problem(s), not a problem unreported by the owner:

We are soooo disappointed and upset. The car is so far from the advertised condition. It WAS in an accident, it is NOT in "excellent condition", it's only flaw IS NOT a crack in the wood on the dash, there ARE dings, dents, scratches, On and on and on and on.

I have contacted the seller for a refund. Hopefully we can get past this HORRIBLE experience real soon.

Boy, we had plans for this 1985 500 SEL. We just can't afford costly repairs to an advertised "excellent condition" vehicle.

Shame on us for trusting someone.
Shame on him for taking advantage.

Any suggestions?

Bob

Could you post a link to the car on eBay? I'm curious to see what you're talking about, and know who the dealer is.

I've been buying nothing but used Benz's for the last 17 years, and it's been my experience that unless I buy a recent model from a Mercedes dealer's lot (Starmarked), I can expect to need to pay $2000-$3000 in repairs on the car immediately. I automatically add this into the seller's asking price, and if it seems worth it I buy it, otherwise I pass.
