Oil Extreme - Engine oil additives

97 E320 with 93000 miles.

Last Friday I had the oil changed by Mobile Pit Stop, an at your office service which is extemely convenient, at 93000 miles. The last oil change had been at 80,000 miles.

On Friday the car ran quite well on my way home but on Saturday I found the car idling a little rough and the engine sounded noisier. I checked the oil level on Sunday morning after the car had been sitting level for at least 10 hours and found the oil level over the max mark. The invoice says they put in 7 quarts of oil which is less than the recommended 7.7.
The oil filter was changed with a new one which I provided.

The oil they used is called Oil Extreme and includes an additive see http://www.oilextreme.com/ .

I'm going to take out some of the oil and bring it to the right level but I'd like to know other opinions about non MB oil change services and oils.

Thanks,
Anil

RE: Oil Extreme - Engine oil additives

if the oil filter cap wasn't removed while the pan drain plug was out, all the oil wasn't removed. when the filter housing is loosened, it drains into the pan. this must be done before the pan is drained or during, not after. ps..(this is the edit) I do not (including MB) recommend additives. Unnecessary. clean oil is all thats required, besides having a full crankcase. synthetic oil has had enough research and development, and to just go and add something that can possibly ruin the intended purpose of the oil is stupid. oil companies have "secret" recipes for their oil, which include many chemicals and additives, and to add more additives to their recipe can cause a reaction. even acids can be formed. (not good) this goes for petroleum and synthetic oils. just keep it CLEAN and full, and it will take care of you...pss. this goes for switching oils too.. stick with one brand. pss.. get that extra oil out of there, its a no-no.. foaming will occur..

RE: Oil Extreme - Engine oil additives

Here's the status after a few days of hand-wringing:

1. The oil weight is lighter than the oil that I originally had, i.e it is 10W-30 vs the 20W-40 Mobil which is what it has always had.
2. This is a synthetic oil, the earlier oil was not.

Spoke to my friendly service advisor and he's not concerned about the lighter synthetic oil or the additives. We'll just switch back at the next oil change.

My opinion, the engine feels smooth after a few days of driving but is noisier than it was previously, expecially under hard accelaration. I prefer the heavier weight regardless of any performance or mileage gains from a lighter oil.

13,000 mile oil change? That may have something to do with it.
