About the wheels on the 500SEL

Just bought a 1985 500SEL.
I like the wheels on the 1986+ models better. They're sort of "flat-faced". The 1985's are sort of "spokey-faced". (you know what I mean).
Can I easily buy them (the newer ones) and simply replace.
I'm asking about lug spacing here, not the size of the tires.

RE: About the wheels on the 500SEL

You’ll have no problem replacing the 14-inch old style rims (sometimes referred to as “bundtcake rims) with the new style 15-inch rims. The 92 “w140 rims will also fit and look very good.

For your consideration:

RE: About the wheels on the 500SEL

The W126 and R107 share the same wheels from 86-on. I understand they were 7" wide in 86-87 and 6.5" wide from 88-91. Maybe the 560s had 7" wheels throughout. I hear the story told a number of ways.

W201 (190E) and W124 (300E) wheels look very similar but have a deeper offset. They will fit but I think the reduced track looks a little silly.

When checking a set of wheels, make sure you're getting:

- wheels with a 126 or 107 prefix part number

- wheels with ET21,5 or ET25 offset

- wheels of a matched set

It's tempting to get the same look in the 16" wheels offered on the 90-91 R129 (500SL). The deep offset won't fit the rear of a W126 sedan (I've heard they fit a W126 copue) without spacers.
