Equivalent Parts List..

In the DISTANT past..I was proud to own a 1947 Rolls Royce Wraith..Due to old age and general abuse it was necesary to change the clutch..This we did.. I (in my inocence)purchased a chutch plate and release bearing from Jack Barkleys.. at HORRIBLE expense.. (any of you who moan about the cost of W140 parts -you dont know your born)So we fitted it..with great care and it was perfect..So I am in the garage..when in comes another grease monkey.. tellin him about the job..show him the old clutch plate..He says "nah mate thats from a FORD 3ton truck"..And much supprise -derision - and foul language ensued..anyway he insisted it was EXACTLY the same as the previous..a LARGE ammount of cash was BET..that FORD and Rolls Royce did not use the SAME part..He went away..only to return.. with not one.. but three Ford 3ton truck clutch plates.. all EXACTLY the same as my RR one.. Even down to the same Manuf ser no stamped on the meatalwork..
The Ford one was about £80.. Whilst the (GENUINE) Rolls one had cost me in excess of £900...
I had to pay the bet..
Conversations with other Mechs later indicated that there was a BOOK with EQUIVALENT part numbers in it.. like Ferrari used Triumph switches..Bently used a Morris back light .. Mercedes used a AUDI vac pump..

So what I am asking is..anyone know of parts from other manufacturers that will fit our Mercedes Benz Motors..??

Torque isn't cheap
