RE: how do i remove a 97 e320 instrument cluster?

I have a problem with the speedometer, so my car ´96 C220 had the cluster replaced, I think that in the E Series the attachment has to be similar.
The cluster has two flaps y say at 10 & 2 if were the place in a watch, wih a thin sheet metal ( in my car the person used a broken metal saw in spanish zegueta) to try to release by each side at the time and pulled the cluster towards the steering wheel from the knobs to control the dimmer & clock.
If yoou have the new cluster I think you can have an idea where the tabs are located.

Buena Suerte!

I have just learned that in order to avoid the clear lens to separate from the cluster it is wise to push from the back to make it easier, as you remove the under dash cover.

luck

you use MB special "Dash Hooks" part #140-589-02-33-00
they slide in the sides of the cluster about 1/2-3/4 of an inch from the bottom till they reach the grey band on the shaft of the tool and turn the hooks inward. then steady your thumbs around the steering wheel and pull with a strong steady force with your fingers(be very carefull to grab the cluster itself and not just the clear plastic cover). good luck!
