98 C280

Can any tell me "known" problems for a 1998 C280 with a 3.2 V6.
Besides normal wear & tear items (ie battery, tires brakes, belts and hoses), I have replaced the windshield wiper motor, front end parts (I think it was tie rods??), the cigar lighter constantly blows fuses, the tail light bulbs burnout at least once a month. I was told it has alot of "blowby" and now the head and valve covers have started leaking. When I try to start it, most of the time I have to turn the key 2 or 3 times before it will start - once it turns over it starts fine; however, it has a ticking sound possibly lifters that it did not have before. The check engine light comes on Occasionally.
I purchased this vehicle used with @ 60,000 miles taking the previous owners word on the service history. It now has 86,500 miles and I am starting to think I should get rid of it while the getting is good. The body and interior are in perfect condition but that won't keep it going down the road.

what does this car have an engine transplant? 1998 models designations were c230 (2.3L v4), c280 (2.8L v6) and c43 (4.3L v8).

RE: 98 C280

To my knowledge it does not have a 2.8 liter; However, I do not claim to know anything about this vehicle nor am I a mechanic. I can however take care of minor problems.
When I first bought it and and picked up parts from the dealer or parts store that were ordered for a 98 C280 I received the wrong parts.
I took it to a local shop that only works on BMW & Mercedes and he had the same problem; He ended up keeping it an extra day because the wrong parts came in from the dealer. I specifically recall the oil filter was too small and he had to obtain additional spark plugs because he assumed it would take 6 and it required 12.
I may very well be wrong about the 3.2 Liter; However, it has a sticker under the hood regarding the motor and I thought it had 3.2 on it.
I'll be happy to take a photograph and post it so we can figure it out if necessary.

I have to say, it sounds like a bitsa. Someone must have put the 3.2 in at some stage (maybe the old engine blew?) before you got it, an tht 3.2 isn't as healthy as it could be.

86k is pretty low miles for those symptoms; while they aren't hard to fix, and should be addressed soon to minimise any knock-on damage, you may want to consider whether they are the tip of the iceberg!

97 SLK (40k, Yellowstone, partner's car!) 200 Bhp

...I make that 917 Bhp...!

yeah ive heard of rebadging but very rarely do you see someone rebadge their car as a whole different model, all the time you see people rebadge just the engine size. youre making this more complicated than it has to be, 2cute4u SAID the car is a 98 c280. end of story.
