RE: DEALERSHIP PROBLEMS[:(]

The dealership issue is one which has been recognised, by MB owners at least, as a problem here in the UK. The service has simply not been as good since the new dealership system has been implemented.

I took my W124 E36 to my local dealer to have the brakes replaced - I bought the car s/h and the warranty required a main dealer to do the work. The price of the components was exhorbitant (I could buy genuine MB parts from Germany for less than 1/3 the price, delivered to my door), the labour cost was huge (~£80/hr) and the job was rubbish. When I removed a front wheel for cleaning I found they'd put the vented discs on the wrong sides! This despite them being labelled 'L' and 'R'. When I broached the subject at the dealership I was first told that they didn't realise vented discs are sided, then that this was for 'the German for left and right'... I pointed out that this is 'links' and 'recht'!

This was fixed but less than a week later the handbrake assembly fell apart inside the drum after an incorrectly located spring came away from it's locating pin and fouled inside the drum. This made a noise similar to a small stone trapped between a caliper and a disc. I was fortunate to get this sorted by an independent MB specialist (I was 300 miles from home at the time) for £25, but when I returned to my local MB dealership I was criticised for not taking the car to them! As for a refund of my £25.. no chance! I displayed the offending (mangled) parts and pointed out that I had paid for this to be replaced (and been invoiced for them), so why were the parts obviously several years old? [:(!]

I did eventually get a full brake system overhaul - pedal to disc - including all fluids. This was foc and carried out over two days by their most experienced engineer.

I've not been back... and nor will I. I cannot recommend taking an older MB to a main dealer. They don't know how to look after them. Take a look at the staff - how many working on the cars are over 40 years old? The younger techs are unlikely to have any training on the older cars. And mine is less than 10 years old!

AMG - hope you got it sorted.

RE: DEALERSHIP PROBLEMS[:(]

Couldn't agree more... They always hide behind the phrase "this is normal for this model of car".

I am in the process of lodging a formal complain and putting on record our "differences in opinion" and notifying them that I will hold them responsible for any consequential loss, damages and any premature wear and tear to the vehicle directly or indirectly caused by this fault (extremely loud howling sound from the kompressor after a long drive and when this happens, the car becomes very sluggish). Hopefully, this will make my case stronger if I ever need to take legal action against them.

Anyone else got any better ideas, please let me know.

It is obvious that you are a very angry
person, if a simple matter like this gets
you frustrated to the point where you would
destroy your own property.

Some anger management seems in order.

As to you writing an extensive explanation
this was not needed.
A simple, no, it did blow up would have
sufficed.
But instead you right a way resort to name
calling.
It is obvious that you are one of those
people that thinks that they are always
right and perfect.
Combine this with your anger and that makes
you, in my eyes, a dangerous person.

We all have flaws and I for one have many.
I always try to improve myself and admitting
that you have flaws and then trying to fix
them is great step towards the improvement.
Now if everyone would try this, then the world
would be a so much nicer place to live in.

RE: DEALERSHIP PROBLEMS[:(]

Mercedes like any other garage make mistakes when training people up for instance damage gets done and who has to pay for it even though I'm insured against that i sometimes have to bite the bullet and loose some money and its worth it because something is learned and hopefully doesn't happen too often, this topic has been a learning curve also "some see it as an argument" i see it as a "debate" and quite good for airing our differences so lets not take it the wrong way and remain friendly[:)]
