2005 E320 Nav System

I noticed when I first used my Nav System that it will not map to a specific house address but a grouping of numbers (1200-1900 Main street). Is this due to the data on the CD or the overall sysem? (i.e. the Hertz Neverlost System navigates directly to a specific address.)

Are there aftermarket data sources (CD media) available for this Nav System?

Lost, but only bu a block or two...

RE: 2005 E320 Nav System

Almost all automotive navi systems now seem to use Navteq as their source of navigation data. The block of house address is the function of liability lawyers. The systems can't be guaranteed to get you to the exact address every time and the solution is blocks of numbers to keep the lawyers away.

Since the Hertz system is supplied by Magellan and is not supplied by an auto manufacture as OEM they can get by with the additional address info. The Magellan uses Navtek data as well so it is not the map source that limits the address accuracy.

BTW; The Magelllan Roadmate which is a portable system using much of the same software as the Hertz system just had a major software upgrade recently and now supports additional map views and multiple languages in Male and Female voices. If you loaded all of the updates and languages into the Roadmate 700's hard drive it would be over 900 meg of additional stuff. With a ten gig drive it has all of North America and parts of Canada built in. No memory cards to swap or CD's to exchange and a USB port to upload the updates from your computer.

Potato Chip, custom canuter valve, low-friction muffler bearings, synthetic turn signal fluid, Hi-Definition Progressive Scan Wiper Blades.
Law-makers are supposed to regulate in the interest of the public as opposed to regulating in the interest of the regulated party.
If it says Pratt and Whitney on the outside it better say Martin Baker on the inside.

RE: 2005 E320 Nav System

I also have the 2005 E320 with Nav system and mine came with the 2004 DVD. The detail on the map is terrible. It will highlight only a fraction of the streets. I took it on a road trip from Northern Wisconsin to Western Illinois and the system failed several times (just lost the road altogether and told me I was off the road). Twice it told me to turn right when it was a left that was required. This is the poorest Navigational DVD I have ever seen. My wife's Pacifica has great Nav detail and will take you to a street address in any town.
