I am a 2nd generation San Francisco native and have been fortunate to have lived there for over 25 years, but don't any more, but I guess I know it pretty well. Tough to own a car in, especially big or nice ones, though I always had one there. It's more a town for walking or just grabbing the bus or subway. the cosmopolitan flavor, fantastic ethnic dining (Peruvian, Cambodian, Nicaraguan, Polish, Croatian, French, Vietnamese, Thai, Greek, North Italian, Moroccan, etc.) restuarants not to be missed, then there is the Film festivals, neighborhood street fairs, opera, etc.) different to actually live and work there than being a tourist - but it's almost ungovernable, all the competing special interests there.
And great jumping off place for tours to the wine Country of Napa Valley, or Carmel & Monterey to the South, thePebble Beach Concours is always a lot of fun, last time I went there Phil Hill was there and so was Jay Leno (though I didn't know who he was) and always a good time to be had there, though the weather is CHILLY almost 365 days a year there.
