Navigation retro-fit on a 2005 C230?

I just purchased a 2005 C230 Kompressor sedan. I really wanted the factory installed navigation, but got a good price on the one I purchased because it was already on the lot.

My question is . . . does anyone know if this car can be retro-fitted with factory navigation system. I called the dealer and they are checking. They are unsure because they used so much fiber optic in the wiring, they don’t know if that will make it easier or undoable.

Does anyone know anything?

Thanks

Of course you can have navigation.. haha all they have to do is put it into the MOST ring and configure it.. but a couple of questions.. You do have a COMAND right?.. buy that I mean a screen where your radio is. And do you have a NAV button?

Sorry to sound ignorant, but I don't know. I know there is the screen where the radio is it has the controls for the radio, cd, and telephone. I don't see any nav buttons. It looks like the whole unit would be pulled out to accommodate the NAV system?

The navigation systems are a DIRECT swap with no modification to the wiring. The only installation item is the GPS antenna and the GPS antenna cable. You can buy a under-dash antenna from some people such as steve@mbenznl.com or you can buy the parts that go on the rear window (rear window top right corner) and install those properly.

If you never did a radio removal before it is pretty much the same as PAul Hicks PDF (member here) file on this site.

The differences in trim appearance dont alter much of the work needed. Common sense will resolve most issues.

One more thing.

IMPORTANT TIP ABOUT MOST FIBER OPTIC HEAD UNITS
------------------------------------------------

If you buy a used 2005 navigation and it came from a car that was optioned differently to your car - it wont start. It will show the Benz logo and then go black.

This can only be resolved by clearing the memory with diagnostic and insterting the new configuration.

To get this upgrade you need to remove all of the options (CD stacker, Tele-aid, Voice control, phone system) and start again.

If you dont want any of those options then it can be done with some wire harness changes and a lot of custom connector crimping.

If I recall someone has already fitted 2005 Navigation to 2003 C-Class and it more or less meant that everything had to be removed from the car and new floor harness installed.
