DVD Navigation Operation

I recently bought a E500 with Command 2.0. I have the Nav DVD version 2004.1 but can not seem to navigate to a specific address. It seems able to get me to a block but not a specific address, e.g. I can enter a specific address such as 820 Independence Avenue and I am directed to the 800 - 899 block.
This is either a result of me not knowing how to operate the system or according to the MB dealer - "it is how it is designed".

Do I need to know how to operate the system? Or, is there a fix for this?

RE: DVD Navigation Operation

Your dealer is correct. The system navigates you to the block in which the address is located. Although my car has a CD-based navigation, I've spent a considerable amount of time in an '04 E500 with DVD navigation. Both CD and DVD work the same unless there is an additional feature of which I'm not aware.

Yes the navigation systems in Mercedes at least, will only navigate you to a block. This is actually a security feature in case you give your car to valet, or someone steals your car, since the navigation systems store the places you have typed in, at least they will not be able to pinpoint where you live, work, etc. It is to safeguard the personal information in case of an intruder. Hope this helped your question :)

At points of interest, it does have hotels, resturants and other stuff. It will give directions directly to what is listed in points of interests.

For the life of me I can't understand why Mercedes can't match Toyota and Lexus for the navigation systems. My god, Toyota has a better option. In my friends car I can type in MACYS not matter where I am located and it will find the nearest one!!!
