We have a 1998 C230. We have two remote control keys and they are both not working. The dealer said it is the Central locking pump, which would cost over $1000 to fix. Does anyone have any trouble shooting ideas ? Thanks
Yes the car starts with the remote key. We haven't tried changing the batteries because the little red light still comes on, and the 4-way flashers come on for a second when we push the button.
thanks for any info
start yes no problem, but does it unlock all the doors at the same time or just the drivers door, because the leds flash on the remote it dosnt mean the batterys are good they could be weak so the signal dosnt get to the reciever
I went to the dealer today and the Service Advisor checked it out along with a service tech (although the advisor took the car in to the tech without my being present)
Initially the advisor said that as long as the red light on the LED flashes, it's not a transmission issue. Do u agree? The LED does flash after the remote is pushed. Together we checked all the fuses associated with the locking system and they were ok
He went on to say, after doing a top line review with the tech, that it could be a wiring fault or worst case, the Central Locking Pump is on the fritz, which is HUGE $ to replace.
The manual key opens the drivers door (and rolls all windows down) but not the other 3 doors. Also, the interior trunk release button does not work, nor does the interior door release button on dashboard
i do not agree with the mb tech, very little battery power is needed to operate the LED on the remote but easly not enough to opperate the central locking it needs to have good batters to get a decent range, you could try sitting in the car and operating the remote up close to the reciever, the mb stealership will allways go for the most expensive part if they think you dont know what and how to do it, i also dont beliece they tested anything when they took the car to the tech because they would have to test it with the computer and you would have a printed read out of the fault and you would have been charged for the service, whatch your not getting fleeced[]
Hi mabe you can help me too. My remote does not work and I cant even turn the key in the ignition. I have to manually unlock the doors with the mechanical key. I am in the process of ordering a new key. What do you think? The dealer says if its not the key then its the ignition. What do you suggest.?
Please Help
Take the key apart as much as you can and dry it out. If it turns out you really need a new key, the dealers are the only source we have.
